Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) take a holistic approach to treatment and complete a thorough assessment of each individual case. Understanding the various body systems and how they influence one another is the foundation of how we practice medicine. Our philosophy is to stimulate the healing power of the body. We do not just treat the presenting symptom; we search for the cause and perform comprehensive assessments in order to deliver optimal patient care. This often requires us to requisition additional laboratory testing.

At Abaton Integrative Medicine, once we establish the root cause of symptoms, we utilize a host of therapies based on the individual patient’s physiological, structural, psychological, social, spiritual, environmental and lifestyle factors. Our therapies include acupuncture, botanical medicine, nutrition, diet and lifestyle counselling, supplementation and homeopathy to support your body as it begins to heal and recover.

Our Naturopathic Doctors offer virtual appointments. These are conducted via secure video teleconferencing.

Anyone struggling with their health has something in common - a build up of physical, chemical and/or emotional stress in their bodies. These layers of stress create blockages in the spine which, over time, lead to pain, illness and disease.

Spinal Flow Technique is a powerful healing modality that uses gentle touch directly on the nervous system to reconnect the body to its innate intelligence (its life force energy) so that layers of stress release, blockages dissolve, and ease and wellness expand in the body.

This is used in conjunction with health coaching to produce rapid positive changes, and to prevent re-creating the same stressors that led to illness in the first place.

The body doesn’t need “fixing” because it is so clever! Once we reconnect it to its innate intelligence and remove the interference, healing can unfold naturally.

Hi! I am Dr. Erica Costabile and I am a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in Ontario. I graduated from Laurier University in 2017 with a Double Major degree in Biology and Chemistry and won an award for the Best Written Chemistry Thesis! I graduated university with an open-mind of wanting to get into the field of medicine, but was unsure of which path to take. As I lived in Italy as an Au Pair, I developed a major interest in healing from a natural approach. The longer I lived abroad, the more I learned about the world of Naturopathic Medicine and the importance of healing from the root cause. Soon after, I applied to the Naturopathic Medicine program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in North York. Throughout my time seeing patients, I have grown an increased interest in women’s health, skin, and digestion as the connection between them is so impactful to daily life. My goal is to find the root cause and provide a combination of diet, lifestyle, and preventative approaches to help achieve all health goals, in a way that fits you best.

When I’m away from the clinic, you can find me snuggling up with my dog Turbo or at home in my “lab” creating all natural skincare products and candles for my small business, Barely There Skincare. It’s rare to find me relaxing, but when I do, I seek out hiking, shopping, and going to the cottage.

Qualifications and Certifications:

Honours Bachelor of Science; Double Major in Biology & Chemistry – Wilfrid Laurier University

Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine – Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine

Cosmetic Acupuncture and Facial Rejuvenation Certificate

Hi, I’m Melissa!

If you’re struggling with your mental and/or physical health. I’ve been there and I get it. I experienced the perfect storm of events that led to me living with chronic illness and a multitude of symptoms for years.

Hello! My name is Stephanie Zelembaba and I am a Naturopathic Doctor and co-owner of Abaton Integrative Medicine. My sister, Denise Handscomb, and I envisioned a healing space where patients would feel like they were at home, and it is great to see this come to light at Abaton.

My goal as a health care provider is to empower individuals and families to take charge of their health and strive for optimal health. You can often hear me in appointment saying that just because something is common, does not mean it is normal; just because you hear everyone else has XYZ symptom, that doesn’t mean you need to suffer through and accept this symptom. I want patients to feel that they are being heard, that their questions are answered and that they are confident in the decisions they are making for themselves and their family. I love working with pregnancy and post-partum, pediatrics and women’s health from digestion to stress to hormones and everything in between.

In part of loving what I do, I am continuously learning and developing my skills. I have additional certifications and qualifications in Therapeutic Prescribing, IVIT Certified, Naturopathic Doula training and am a HypnoBirthing Childbirth Educator.
